William McDonough + Partners

William McDonough + Partners, Architecture and Community Design (WM+P) is a 30-person design firm that executes a diverse international array of projects from its offices in Charlottesville, Virginia. As architects, planners, and leaders in sustainable design, all of the firm's designs integrate environmentally-intelligent design strategies. WM+P practices a positive, principled design approach that draws inspiration from living systems and processes. At its heart, this unique approach celebrates the abundance of nature: daylight, fresh air, diversity, life, and creativity.

WM+P puts William McDonough's sustainable design concepts into practice, creating a pioneering body of architectural and community designs that consider the long-term and broad-scale consequences of design. Several of the firm's projects are recognized as landmarks of the sustainability movement: the Environmental Defense Fund National Headquarters (1985); the Herman Miller “GreenHouse” Factory and Offices (1995); 901 Cherry, Offices for Gap Inc. (1997); Oberlin College's Adam Joseph Lewis Center for Environmental Studies (2000); and the revitalization of historic Ford Rouge Center (ongoing).
